What University Taught Me

5 years of further education out of high school isn’t exactly what I had in mind when I first enrolled in University. I had expected to be out in four, with a very different degree and a very different profession.

Now I have my bachelors in Communications, with distinction even. I have learnt so much about all kinds of media, but if there’s one thing University taught me, it’s that there is always more to learn. That especially today the media world is constantly evolving and is highly competitive.

From Podcasts, to short films, to news, to social media marketing, the industry is much less worried about qualifications, and much more about experience and portfolios.

Is my degree going to land me a job? Probably not directly, but I’m still glad I did it. The friends I’ve made, the skills I’ve acquired, will definitely take me into the future.
